Runyon inductees are deserving

A foursome who injected energy and enthusiasm to the Runyon Sports Complex will spearhead the sixth annual Runyon Field Wall of Fame induction ceremony on Sunday.

Herb Casebeer, Leonard Fabrizio, Davey Hernandez and Jeff Horvat will be inducted during the event, which will be held at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center. Doors open at 3 p.m. Tickets are $50 for adults and $15 for students and can be bought online at www.walloffame.cheddarup.com.

Rockies television announcer Jennie Cavnar will be the featured speaker and three 2019 Donor Wall donors will be recognized — Jim Brunjak, Art Escobado and Mike Thompson.

In addition, a silent auction will take place during the event for sports memorabilia items.

Here are bios on each inductee:

Herb CasebeerHerb CasebeerHerb Casebeer had a strong connection to Runyon Field for decades. He was treasurer of the Runyon Field Board of Directors for numerous terms, beginning in the late 1980s and continuing through the mid-1990s. He helped and spearheaded many Runyon projects during the same time, donating his time and expertise. He donated equipment, uniforms, and anything an athlete might need that helped the kids play the game.

 

 

 

 

 

Leonard FabrizioLeonard FabrizioLeonard Fabrizio has been a volunteer youth coach at Runyon for over 20 years, at various age levels. He has coached athletes from every high school and stays in contact with them as they grow into college prospects. He has a special knack for relating to kids and is passionate about the sport of baseball. He not only coaches, but mentors kids in the game of life. He has taken his personal vacation time from work to donate to kids.

 

 

 

 

 

Davey HernandezDavey HernandezAnyone and everyone that is associated with the Pueblo sports scene knows Davey Hernandez. He is a constant presence that volunteers countless hours for others. Davey has spent over forty years at Runyon Field selling programs, chasing foul balls and helping in any way that is asked of him. Additionally, he has helped at CSU-Pueblo for many, many years. Davey was also a team representative for the Pueblo Elks and Pueblo Collegians many years ago, and traveled with the teams as a helper.

 

 

 

 

 

Jeff HorvatJeff HorvatJeff Horvat, known as “Butch” or “Scotty”, is a well-known community member from Standard Sales and well-known for his love of the game. Jeff was a star pitcher at South during his high school days and went on to play coed ball after graduation. He has given countless donations to help Runyon with fundraising. He has spent many days and nights at Runyon watching his daughters Darian and Toni play ball as well as playing himself or just hanging out watching some great games.
